I love Christmas music. One of my favorite days is Leon day. It’s a day in June (midway through the year) when KSSK radio plays Christmas music. There is something about how Christmas music taps into this nostalgic, heartfelt place. I hear “Merry Christmas Darling” by the Carpenters and I am taken back to my 8th grade chorus performance at Highlands Intermediate, or “Home For The Holidays” by Hookena and I am immediately taken to my dad’s house where he played his Hookena playlist in the background of annual Christmas Eve gatherings, or I hear “Nu Oli” by Keali`i Reichel and I am taken back to Lanakila Church where the Lau `Ohana would sing Christmas songs and read selected scripture. I hope there are songs that lift your spirits and bring a smile to your face as it does mine.
Happy Holiday listening and enjoy a staff selection of our favorite holiday music on Spotify.
